For lovers of folk rock there is nothing better than a concert by the pioneers of the genre, Fairport Convention. Kettering Arts Centre is pleased to announce that on Saturday, May 16 the group will be performing a semi-acoustic set in the beautiful setting of St Andrew’s Church.

Founded in 1967 the current line-up features original member Simon Nicol (vocals, guitar) along with Dave Pegg (bass guitar) who was recruited in 1969. They will be joined on stage by Ric Sanders (violin), Chris Leslie (mandolin, fiddle, vocals) and Gerry Conway (percussion), all of whom have been with Fairport for more than 20 years.

The concert will feature a range of traditional and contemporary material, including songs by Sanders and Lesley, as with 27 recorded albums to their name, the group has an extensive back catalogue from which to create a truly exhilarating set. Along with many of your favourites expect a selection of songs from their new album, Myths and Heroes, released at the beginning of March.

“We’re really looking forward to visiting The Arts Centre,” said Simon Nicol, “especially as on this tour we’ve got a whole album’s worth of new material to introduce to our audience. Our first love is still performing live and it will also be good to play smaller venues again. These spring shows will have a lighter more intimate feel than the more muscular style of our winter tours.”

This concert is a great opportunity to hear the delightful sounds which are emblematic of this legendary group, winner of a coveted BBC Lifetime Achievement Award and the backing of Radio 2 listeners who voted Fairport’s ground-breaking album, Liege & Lief, ‘The Most Influential Folk-rock Album of All Time’. With no support act Fairport Convention will launch straight into the first of the two extensive sets they will be performing on the night, broken only by a half-time interval.

Tickets for this concert cost  £20 and are available from Waterstones, High Street, Kettering, by post from Becky at St Andrew’s Church (cheques made payable to “PCC of St Andrew’s Kettering”) to St Andrew’s Vicarage, Lindsay Street, Kettering NN16 8RG or online at We Got Tickets ( subject to a booking fee).
