Many people may have read this classic piece of literature, but probably not have come across its sub title – Handbags at Dawn. Sub title? Well, yes, if you want to bring the written word to the stage in a production from the much-loved Pantaloons Theatre Company.

This energetic show featured all the usual Wildean wit, plus a few Pantaloony surprises including singing butlers, travel by means of musical montage, a post-interval Hollywood-style recap and an interactive gameshow ‘The Bracknell Factor’.

“You must not laugh at me, darling, but it had always been a girlish dream of mine to love someone whose name was Ernest…” Yes, everybody loves Ernest but the only trouble is – he doesn’t exist. Or does he?

Few people tackle literary works quite like the Pantaloons and Oscar Wilde’s comic masterpiece is no exception as the company present their inimitable anarchic take on this classic comedy of manners.

Come along and size up this show which the Rotherham Advertiser described as feeling like “putting on a forgotten pair of slippers and finding them even more comfy than you recall” – and for this production – one size fits all.

Tickets for this and other events are available from Waterstones, High Street, Kettering. By post including an SAE to Jaime Ferreira at 4 Litchfield Close, Kettering NN16 9BS (cheques made payable to “PCC of St Andrew’s Kettering”).
