Sean Hughes Mumbo Jumbo Tour 2015Fresh from playing station master Mr Perks in the Olivier Award-winning production of The Railway Children at the King’s Cross Theatre the comedian and actor Sean Hughes is taking his Mumbo Jumbo Tour around the UK.

Swapping one stage for another (serious to comedy) Sean is a very versatile performer. On the small screen he has appeared in a range of screen roles in series as diverse as Coronation Street to The Last Detective as well as being a popular team captain on the long-running Never Mind the Buzzcocks pop quiz show. Cinema goers may well have seen him on the larger screen where he landed roles in the film adaptations of The Commitments and Spike Milligan’s tale of Puckoon.

New for 2015, The Mumbo Jumbo Tour stems from Sean reaching a certain stage in his life, middle age. Looking back he has realised his struggle to keep on the right side of sanity has been a constant battle – a battle between the opposing sides of his own brain. On one side there is common sense and on the other… there is what he can only describe as mumbo jumbo – basically, everything that is not common sense. Like the majority of battles, there can only be one winner. In this instance it is the Mumbo Jumbo. It made Sean into the person you see on stage in which the audience will be able to share some of his experiences as he rifles through his cluttered wardrobe of a brain to bring you stories and anecdotes from his career to date – from being serenaded by Robert Smith (The Cure) to trekking mountain gorillas in Rwanda and coming to the conclusion that he will never have a proper conversation with his dear mum.rbm

There will be a few poems and a 3-minute musical about ageing too.

Given a four-star rating by UK comedy guide, Chortle, and a review: “For quick laughs look elsewhere, but for something that leaves more of an impression – Hughes is your man” this promises to be a night to remember.
