An Evening with Brooklyn / Dublin Based Singer Songwriter Mark Geary

“His delicate songs about love and defiance…recall Richard Thompson and John Lennon….one of the East Village’s favourite adopted sons.” – Time Out NY

After the success of his last concert in Kettering, and back by popular demand Mark is coming once again, to play in Kettering. Accompanied by the lovely GRAINNE HUNT & talented guitarist  IAN BAILEY. Mark will be playing songs from his previous 5 albums .

When Mark played to a packed house back in November new friendships were forged, and musical respect gained on both sides as he was supported by Kenneth J. Nash, who will once again be providing support on the night.

Mark Geary is a Dublin born musician who emigrated to New York City at the age of 19. He spent his early years performing in NYC at the famed Sin-e Café alongside other up and coming musicians, including friend Jeff Buckley.

Garnering respect and attention from both audiences and fellow artists, Mark was soon featured on bills with the likes of Joe Strummer, Elvis Costello, The Pretenders and Coldplay. In 2011 Mark supported Glen Hansard on his European solo tour.

Mark has released 4 studio albums & a live record that was recorded in various venues in NYC, all on Louisville, Kentucky based record label SonaBLAST! Records. His second album, the acclaimed Ghosts, was named 2005’s Album of the Year by the Irish Voice. Billboard Magazine said Ghosts “evokes Van Morrison, particularly his early-1970s era,” and called it “a collection of superb songs delivered with a quiet intensity that will endear itself to listeners.”

In addition to his own albums, Mark has composed the score to several films; 2005’s Loggerheads, 2006’s Steel City, and 2010′s Sons of Perdition, a Tribeca Film Festival favourite and one of the first documentaries featured in the Oprah Winfrey Network Documentary Club. His songs have also been featured on various television shows including One Tree Hill and Bones.

Mark’s 4th album, songs about love, songs about leaving, was released on sonaBLAST! Records in 2011.

Support Act : Kenneth J. Nash

Kenneth J Nash is a veteran of the music scene, years spent on the road as a musician and DJ has taken its toll on his personal life, and provided the impetus and material for his songs.

He draws on his influences (Cohen, Waits, Cash, Reed, Hardin & Cave) to write songs that capture the darker moments of his past. Love, addiction and regret feature heavily in his material as he narrates his personal journey through the human condition. “I find the whole experience very cathartic, to encapsulate pain into dark beautiful music”.

Over the last few years he has written and released three LP’s under his own name, (In the company of ghosts, Under a gypsy moon & We all belong) which feature some very talented musicians. He has played at Festivals, Folk clubs & Acoustic showcases throughout the UK and has been featured on radio, in press and on podcasts worldwide. His songs have been used on several compilation LP’s including Independent Music News who picked him as one their ‘hot tips for 2012’.

With two more LP’s in the pipeline and lots of bookings in his gig diary he is set to continue taking his Dark Folk stories to a wider audience.
