Two Comedy Events on the same day?!?

Kettering Arts Centre is pleased to announce our comedy extravaganza on 24th September, with not one but two Rolling in the Aisles Comedy Events.

  • Rolling in the Aisles Special for Kids (and adults) Saturday, 24th September – Tickets £9 (Concessions £7) – Doors open 1.30pm. Show starts 2pm
  • Rolling in the Aisles Comedy Club Night – Headline Act Craig Murray  – Saturday, 24th September – Tickets £9 (Concessions £7) – Doors open 7.30pm. Show starts 8pm

Our first event was specially formulated for kids with one of the best Comedy for Kids Compere in the country, Tiernan Douieb has done the comedy thing for ages and ages now. Since his early days treading the boards, his comedy has taken on a more satirical edge opting to complain about worldly political happenings in the friendliest and funniest manner possible.

This is balanced by his stand-up for children and families which is mostly about bogies and superheroes. Tiernan regularly performs all over the world even though he really likes being at home. He is constantly on Twitter, co-runs the successful Comedy Club 4 Kids and has performed and written several solo shows which have all done alright really.

Featuring as its headline act the comedic whirlwind, Jonny Awsum who will be armed with an impressive arsenal of jokes and his trusty guitar. This afternoon performance opens with the only half Spanish half Scottish hybrid working comic in the world, Tony Vino, who is noted for his audience interaction and quick witted responses. Kettering’s own Nick Wills will then get the kids involved in a playful re-telling of stories from his childhood. Whether you have a deep guffaw, high titter or belly laugh, come on down and have some fun at this family event – let’s face it – we are all children at heart.

Our second event starting at 8pm will see the return of  Tiernan Douieb as our opening act exchanging duties with Nick Wills who will be the Compere Extraordinaire for the evening. This evening’s comedy event will be guaranteed to entertain you with a varied and extremely experienced lineup of first class comedians.

Rita SEPT Tiernan DouiebStarting the proceedings will be Tiernan Douieb (pronounced ‘Eee-Waaaah Crunk’) is one of them people who you’ve heard about with beards. Tiernan has had a beard for quite some years now, with it varying in shape & size, but only disappearing entirely once.

On that occasion Tiernan realised his chin not only terrified and upset others, but also redefined his face shape so it was no longer the cuddly, bear like image people knew and loved and instead a hairless cold pink smorgasbord of shame. So since then Tiernan has grown, nurtured and developed his face coat, providing somewhere for small animals to nestle and children to rub sticks against to cause fires.

Rita SEPT James CookFollowing a short break it will be the turn of James Cook winner of the Jongleurs/Spike Milligan award for being the funniest person in the Midlands in 2003. It’s been ten years and they haven’t asked for it back, so he’s assuming it must still be him.

From 2004 – 2010, James worked as a presenter on three commercial radio stations (none of which exist anymore) during which time he went onstage with A-ha, presented Lenny Henry with his Walk Of Fame Star and was a guest judge on the Dancing On Ice tour at the Nottingham Arena in front of 10,000 people.  The experiences would inform the writing of his first solo Edinburgh show ‘Adventures on Air’.

OUR HEADLINE ACT – CRAIG MURRAY

Rita SEPT Craig MurrayHailing from Dewsbury, West Yorkshire (a town otherwise famous for international terrorists, fake kidnaps and ‘Britain’s Best Market’), charming northerner Craig is currently one of the hottest rising talents on the comedy circuit.

Craig cut his comedy teeth as resident compere at award-winning London club The Funny Side…of Covent Garden sharing a stage with some of the very best comedy acts in the business including Harry Hill, Stewart Lee and even Hollywood legend Robin Williams. He rapidly became a master of the compere’s art; able to turn any crowd from a lacklustre mob into a clapping, cheering, delirious audience ready to laugh all night.
